To honour the legacy of our founder and further our mission of championing the Canadian opera artists of tomorrow, Toronto City Opera announces the first annual Giuseppe Macina Operatic Voices Competition.
This annual event will culminate in a live public performance on May 11, 2024 featuring eight of the finest young Canadian opera singers.
Submission
Opera singers aged 21-35 (as of the application deadline) who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents are invited to apply by submitting a video recording of two contrasting arias to [email protected] by April 8, 2024.
Two separate videos for each aria is acceptable, but each aria must be a one-take video. Videos should be high quality and show the performer’s entire physical presence, as opera is both a vocal and dramatic art form. Video submissions will be pre-screened by Toronto City Opera’s artistic team, and eight finalists will be invited to compete in the finals on Saturday May 11, 2024.
All applicants are asked to keep the date of May 11, 2024 free until the eight finalists are announced. The finalists performances will be accompanied by Ivan Estey Jovanovic, Toronto City Opera Music Director.

The public performance will be at 2PM at the Church of the Redeemer, 162 Bloor Street West. Tickets are $20 general admission.
